And… together we have made many fantastic skin care products that continue to help people achieve and maintain healthy skin.
Our many thanks to all our customers and our tester volunteers.
Many of the Bodimage and Avedyne products we make contain a wide variety of healing oils chosen for their specific applications due to their unique properties.
Sesame oil for example, has been used for centuries as a healing oil. It is a natural anti inflammatory as well as an antibacterial and an anti viral agent. Avocado oil contains proteins, amino acids and large amounts of vitamins A, D, and E making it very therapeutic. Avocado oil helps to regenerate cells and soften body tissue.
Borage oil and Rosehip Oil contain a high content of gamma-linoleic acid (GLA). They are penetrating oils which allows the essential fatty acids to be readily absorbed by the skin. GLA helps to restore the intercellular moisture barrier and helps to regenerate tissue. Aloe vera contains amino acids, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and enzymes. The healing, pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects of aloe vera have been well established.
Lanolin not only provides a protective barrier, it is absorbed by the skin and soothes and hydrates the skin from within.
Bodimage products have many more fantastic oils and ingredients than mentioned above.

Natural Insect Repellents - We cannot call these products by this name as that would be claiming that they work well to naturally keep mosquitoes and black flies from biting. We of course wish to comply with federal regulations and so are not making such claims. Instead, we are calling these products, "Outdoor Oils". They make your outdoor experience that much more enjoyable.

Relax in the comfort of your own home with Bodimage Bath Salts, Salt Scrubs, Olive Oil Soaps, and Lavender Oatmeal Milk Bath. Add a warm bath, candle light and soothing music. P.S. A partner is always nice too.
Oatmeal Milk Bath An exquisite bathing delight, lightly scented with lavender to help soothe troubled skin. Rub your skin with the muslin bag and relax in the soothing atmosphere of your warm bath. If you like lavender essential oil then this is a lavender treat.
Olive Oil Moisturizing Soap Olive oil produces a wonderfully mild and moisturizing soap bar as the oil attracts and keeps moisture close to the skin. On its own, cold-pressed olive oil soap produces small bubbles and lathers slowly. By adding a small amount of palm oil and coconut oil, the bubbles become larger and are longer lasting. This type of soap will lather in both hard and soft water and is mild enough to use with confidence on babies.
Fragrances of: White Ginger Flower/ Plumeria/ Cinnamon (EO blend)/ Licorice (EO blend)/ Lavender (EO)/ Alpine (EO blend)
We are especially fond of our Gardeners’ Soap. It has fine granules and a refreshing ginger scent that takes the already perfect Bodimage olive oil soap to another level of clean, yet soothing to the skin without drying out the skin like many commercial soaps do.
For the firemen (and women), mechanics and carpenters in the family, Bodimage Olive Oil Soap works well on wood soot, grease, old oil, and some tars like acoustic sealant. It is mild enough to use on Baby’s skin.
Shampoo Bar The Bod•i•mage Shampoo Bar is a real treat for your scalp. It is formulated to clean your hair while adding healthy oils back onto your scalp. Bonus - no bottle to throw away.
We recommend the shampoo bar often to men who insist on using a bar of soap for their hair and scalp care. In contrast to most hand soaps that tend to dry the skin (and scalp), the Bodimage Shampoo Bar contains healthy oils that work on the scalp and the hair reducing flakiness and dryness. A very nice clean is the result.
The oils in the bar take a few days to work their ‘magic’. We have found that 4 to 6 days of once a day use without any other usage of other soaps or shampoos or conditioners will give your hair the time it needs to adapt to the new, healthy oils and cleansing elements. Really give it a good hearty try. You will find it to be a very worth-while change.
You do not need conditioner with the shampoo bar but a good quality conditioner does not hurt the effectiveness of the shampoo bar once through the break-in period. A conditioner sometimes adds a bit more shine and silkiness to your hair.

Salt Scrubs These heavenly exfoliators, also known as salt glows, combine sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil, salt, and essential oil blends to create an invigoratingly relaxing and exquisite bath experience. Essential oil blends: Citrus grove; Alpine Meadow; Energize
The Energize Salt Scrub is showing good results with people who use it in conjunction with Bodimage Dry Skin Cream for relief from the itchiness, soreness, redness, and dryness associated with psoriasis. We also highly recommend using these salt scrubs in the bathtub with your partner. They make for a delicious and soothing bathing massage experience. The added element of the course salt provides exfoliation while the oils coat and nourish the skin, and make you all slippery. Pat dry after the bath and you will feel very ready for a restful nights sleep still aglow.

Eczema: Getting the Facts – see information source at end of article below-
People from all walks of life and all ages live with eczema; however, it typically appears in infants. Also called contact dermatitis, eczema is actually a group of skin conditions. Although it may sometimes look like a contagious condition, eczema is not contagious. Symptoms related to eczema depend on the causes and severity of the form of eczema. A person with mild eczema has dry, hot, and itchy skin. Severe eczema causes the skin to crack, bleed, and often takes a long time to heal. Inflammation in the area is common depending on the type of eczema. Types of eczema: Atopic eczema - Most common form of eczema; affects children and adults.Symptoms include: - extreme itchiness - dryness of the skin - redness - inflammation Irritant contact dermatitis
- Occurs when skin becomes irritated by detergents and other chemicals (e.g. perfumes, soaps, bubble bath powder and more). Varicose eczema
- Affects skin on the lower legs and is caused by poor circulation of blood. Allergic contact dermatitis
- Body's immune system attacks a substance in the skin. - Symptoms are similar to those listed for atopic eczema. Infantile seborrhoeic eczema
- Found on infants under one year old. - Often looks unpleasant but does not affect the infant's comfort and may appear on the scalp or bottom. Discoid eczema
- Typically associated with adults. - Found on upper body and lower legs. Dealing with eczema In order to deal with eczema, you need to figure out what type of eczema you have. A doctor can help a person living with eczema or someone caring for a child with eczema manage the condition. Diagnosis of eczema is not simple. A doctor must look at the person's medical history, when they first recognized the condition and what triggers the condition. Some people with atopic dermatitis have allergies and may need allergy testing, especially if treatment with medication is not working. Reducing the number and frequency of outbreaks is the goal of any eczema treatment. To reach this goal, a person living with eczema may need to: - make certain lifestyle changes (e.g. avoid certain irritating products) - use medication to control the outbreaks - kidneys - follow a regular skin care routine Lifestyle changes are often useful in reducing and preventing the symptoms of eczema. However, some of these lifestyle changes work for some people and not others. Some changes to consider include: - wearing cotton clothing and using cotton bedding to reduce the itchiness associated with the condition. Synthetic fibres don't allow the skin to breathe and wool can irritate the skin. - using biological laundry detergents, also avoid using fabric softeners. Synthetic laundry detergents, and fabric softeners may increase itchiness and cause a person to scratch more often. As a result, not using them may help reduce the skin's itchiness. - vacuuming, dusting, and changing bedding regularly. This is extremely important because it reduces the number of house dust mites and the droppings from dust mites that are found in bedding, mattresses, curtains, and carpets. - possible changes to the foods you eat. Even though the link between diet and eczema is not conclusive, making changes to certain foods consumed in some severe cases of eczema, especially in babies and young children seems beneficial. Always ask your doctor before making dietary changes to ensure the foods eaten will include all necessary nutrients for growth and development. Common treatments for people with eczema require moisturization of the skin and use of medications, if necessary. Treatment is usually based on a person's age, health, medical history as well as the type and severity of eczema. Possible treatments consist of: - lotions and creams: These products are applied directly on the skin to keep in as much moisture as possible. Using organic lotions and creams may be a good alternative to non-organic moisturizers since the non-organic moisturizers contain synthetic chemicals that may cause an outbreak. Moisturizing the skin after showering helps lock in moisture. - medications such as topical steroids, oral steroids, and topical immunomodulators: Prescription and non-prescription corticosteroids come in the form of creams and ointments that can be applied to the skin. Prescription corticosteroids are more potent than non-prescription ointments but both have potential side effects, especially if used for long periods of time. Oral steroids are usually prescribed for severe outbreaks. Topical immunomodulators do not contain steroids and are available by prescription to treat atopic eczema. Other tips that may help people with eczema improve the skin's condition include: - keeping nails short - avoiding sudden changes in temperatures (e.g. going from cold environments to hot environments) - relaxing to reduce stress Bodimage thanks Lori Stryker for the use of her article. Shea Butter info
The following information about Shea Lotion was sourced from: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/43779/shea_butter_whats_the_big_deal.html
Shea butter is a marketing buzz word in everything from lotions to baby wipes these days. So what is shea butter and what is the big deal?
Shea butter is also known as Karite butter as is produced from the kernel (or pit) of the fruit of the Karite tree that grows wild and abundantly throughout the savannah of central and West Africa. The vitamin rich fruit is harvested by local women and children. The fruit is consumed, and then the pits are dried, roasted, ground and boiled over a fire to extract the butter. The extraction process is done by hand and is long and laborious. Women and children are the main producers and benefactors of shea commerce in West Africa.
All shea is not equal. Pure, unrefined shea butter ranges in the golden-greenish-beige color and still retains the smoky scent of the extraction process. Refined and Ultra-refined shea butter has been processed and is usually white and unscented. The use of gases and chemicals in the process of refining the butter in order to deodorize it can compromise its healing abilities. Almost all retail shea butter sold in N. America is white and odorless, refined shea butter with a chemically extended shelf life.
The healing properties of unrefined shea butter are extensive and allergic reactions are rare, making shea an ideal ingredient for skin care and cosmetic products. Many skin conditions, like eczema, psoriasis, rashes, burns, sunburn and dry and itchy skin can benefit from application of the butter. High in unsaponified fats, minerals, and vitamins and E, the butter is used to retain elasticity and anti-aging cell health in the skin. The presence of Stigmasterol to reduce stiffness and swelling in muscles making a useful treatment for rheumatism and arthritis sufferers. Shea butter can be applied directly to the scalp as a moisturizing treatment for dry, itchy scalp & dandruff, and the butter can be applied to the length if the hair shaft to moisturize, add shine, and strengthen the shaft. And because it is also know for increasing circulation and drain toxins from sore muscles, shea butter is perfect for massage therapy. The list goes on and on and are extensive:
Lotion, apply directly on dry skin.
Lip balm, apply directly to lips.
Scalp treatment before or after shampooing.
Hot oil treatment on hair.
Bath oil, melt a tablespoon directly in bath water.
Foot treatment, apply liberally to feet and then slip on socks before bedtime.
Wrinkle cream.
Cuticle cream.
Massage oil.
Anti-static on hair, melt a little between hands and run hands through hair.
Scar treatment and minimization.
Salve for bruises.
Sports rub for sore muscles.
Stretch mark prevention and treatment.
Razor burn prevention and treatment.
Mild burn treatment.
Diaper rash cream.
Cradle cap treatment.
Unfortunately, the amount of natural, unrefined shea butter present in most mass produced, commercial products is probably minimal. However, any presence of shea butter is better than none.

The Fragrance Industry reaffirms its support of the use of DEP in fragrances as safe for the consumer and the environment. Recent misleading reports on the use of phthalates as fragrance ingredients have raised questions regarding their safety in consumer products. Not all phthalates have safety concerns. Diethyl phthalate (DEP), as used in fragrances, is safe for human health and the environment. The fragrance industry would like to make clear that consumers can use fragranced products containing DEP with confidence.
"Phthalates" is a broad term that refers to a wide variety of compounds ofdiffering chemical structure. General, undifferentiating statements about "phthalate toxicity" have created confusion about potential safety concerns that are in fact only associated with specific materials within this group. Safety concerns have been raised most recently about Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Diethyl Hexyl Phthalate (DEHP). However, neither DBP nor DEHP is permitted for use in cosmetic products in Europe. On a global basis they have never been important as fragrance ingredients and today their use in fragrances is virtually nil.
As in so many other examples, broad generalizations of hazard or risk can be misleading and lead to unfounded public concern. For example, nobody would consider all berries or mushrooms to be unsafe, though specific types have a known toxicity at certain levels.
DEP, which continues to be used in fragrance applications, does not have the safety concerns raised for DBP or DEHP. DEP was recently re-examined by authorities and expert scientific groups both in the U.S. and Europe. The European Commission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (1), as well as the U.S. Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel (2) have reaffirmed that DEP is safe for use in cosmetic products. Moreover, DEP is present in consumer products at extremely low levels.
While some reports continue to raise questions about "phthalates" in general, it is important to define the specific chemicals of concern, as well as the scientific legitimacy of the associated date. The scientific validity of some highlighted results remains very much in question. For example, recent studies reporting the potential association of "phthalates" with male reproductive biomarkers are inconsistent (3)(4). Moreover, since DEP does not demonstrate a potential for adverse reproductive effects, it is inaccurate to imply that there are concerns similar to those of other phthalates, such as DBP or DEHP. DEP presents no safety concern from use in fragrances (5).
The safety of fragrance ingredients is a top priority for the industry. New scientific data is constantly evaluated to ensure that the highest standards are applied to the creation of fragrance. The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM, <http://www.rifm.org> ) provides ongoing evaluation of all new materials with an independent assessment made by RIFM's Expert Panel (REXPAN). REXPAN is composed of internationally renowned scientific experts who are independent from the fragrance industry.
The International Fragrance Association (IFRA, <http://www.ifraorg.org> ) continues to set strict self-imposed safety standards for the use of fragrance ingredients, as advised by RIFM. IFRA Member companies, which include all major suppliers of fragrance, must adhere to the IFRA Code of Practice and agree to product fragrances to meet these high standards of safety.

Bodimage Health and Skincare products are designed from the ground up. Quality of ingredients, supplier ethics, container type and amount of packaging we use are important considerations in the development process.
We manufacture our products with your health, your family’s health and the health of the environment in mind.
All our product containers are recyclable where facilities exist. Some things like mailing boxes and internal packing supplies i.e. bubble wrap, that we have received from our suppliers in ingredient shipments for example are reused in our mailing packages to customers. We also recycle our ingredients bulk packaging and containers where and when when feasiible. We use hydro-electric power (BC Hydro) for backup heat and primarily use wood heat in an efficient wood stove. Our facilities are insulated with Roxul, a high R-Value, eco-friendly insulation made from mineral wool right here in BC. As well, we drive a VW golf that gets between 48 and 56 mpg. We love it.
Our facility is located in the middle of a self-proclaimed wildlife reserve of 153 acres. Our house is small, less than 1000 sqft total and is very heat efficient for our northern climate. Our longer term goal is to be off the power grid for our home and facilities. All of these factors go together in the making of our skincare products. We reduce and reuse where feasible and are knowledgeable, and pass this philosophy along to you through our products.
Our labeling is minimal to minimize use of ink and paper. We do not package using foils, extra plastic or cardboard that is destined to be thrown away once purchased.
We sell our products as natural skincare products but do not claim to be 100% natural nor are we 100% organic through and through. This is difficult to accomplish. Do not be fooled by companies claiming to be all-natural and if a refrigerator is not needed to extend the shelf life of a product that contains water, then be wary that it does not also contain a preservative. Check their ingredients lists out, look at their packaging. Not all ingredients all the time are listed on every product. They are supposed to be by Canadian regulations but not always is is it so. Not all natural preservatives are extracted in a natural manner either. The best thing to do that we have found is to find what works well for you and that you can agree with given the information you have. Hypes and trends and marketing ploys are often temporary at best. Bodimage takes a middle ground approach to ingredients and aims to make the best skin care products with the best results. We feel we are succeeding with this aim. We use high quality ingredients and make our products with love and attention to quality and consistency. And this is a fine approach. Many of our products contain fragrances oils. Bodimage is known for its low scent levels in its skincare products. Abundance of fragrance oils in a lotion, cream or soap can be uncomfortable to use on sensitive skin or bother people close to you who have sensitive noses. Many of our customers buy our products because of the low scent levels and for the quality of product.
We have many phthalate-free products. Our baby products and our fragrance-free or fragrance oil-free products do not contain phthalates to the best of our knowledge.
We have contacted our suppliers and have been receiving feedback. The phthalate scare is seemingly another one these media hypes that has no root in valid study. CBC radio and website have stated that the findings are non-conclusive as to the origin of the phthalates. Cosmetics may or may not be the source. The fragrance oils we use have less than 1000th of a percent of phthalate in just one component of the overall mixture. The percentage is very small. Phthalates are all around us and in many, many products including water bottles, furniture, toys, and car consoles. We are of the opinion that though it is important to be informed and mindful of what one puts in and on one's body, that going to extremes without good reason is not healthy in itself. We have confidence in our products and will continue to market them as healthy, natural, quality, effective, affordable products. We offer non-scented skincare products and scented products using only quality essential oils and essential oil blends that Susie designs. If you have any concerns or sensitivities to artificial fragrance oils, please read our ingredients list or email us to discuss what Bodimage skincare products would work best for you.
I have also provided a link to the Consumer Product Safety Health Canada re: INCI ingredients labeling. This is to help our customers become more informed about why cosmetic ingredients are now listed in Latin (long, difficult to relate to words). In many cases, I also have the English names next to their Latin names in the ingredients lists.
The ingredients names may seem long and ‘chemical like’. This is just the Latin way of writing it out. Rest assured, we have not all of a sudden started using nasties in our products. Just the names have gotten longer. Bodimage skincare products are still the same affordable, effective, natural, and high quality skincare products you love.
I am providing links to the following articles to help you become aware of how the cosmetic industry operates in Canada so that you can make informed decisions about the skincare products you use. We are constantly learning and aim to remain offering healthy choices as we adapt to new trends, new studies, and filter out the meaningful information over the hype and propaganda, big business jibes, and fallacies.
Ultimately, you choose what skincare products are best for you. We hope you continue to choose Bodimage Health and Skincare products with confidence and comfort. If you have any concerns or comments about our products or anything you read here, please email us at

Thank you for your business and also for doing your part by becoming informed about the products you use. The healthier you are as an individual the healthier we all are.
Consumer Product Safety Health Canada re: INCI ingredients labeling. On December 1, 2004, Health Canada published amendments to the Cosmetic Regulations in Part II of the Canada Gazette. The Regulations now require mandatory ingredient labelling on all cosmetic products sold in Canada. Along with other changes to the Cosmetic Regulations, the protection of the health and safety of the Canadian public with regard to the use of cosmetic products will be strengthened. The new requirements come into force on November 16, 2006. This means that businesses selling cosmetic products in Canada will have to be in compliance with all the new requirements by that time.
